As a lover of culture and cultural diversity on a daily basis, Katee Grace considers it a special honor to document events with traditions intertwined into the festivities, and it was no exception with this Korean First Birthday Party for Baby C in Marina Del Rey. The traditional Korean dress with it’s exquisite detailing and vibrant colors will capture your attention in a moment and draw you in to the story of ancestry, culture and family.
The way this California family chose to incorporate their ancestry into their son’s first birthday honor the tradition of the Korean First Birthday Party complete with traditional dress, the picking game and a house full of family and friends from near and far.
Baby C wore a stunning dol-bok as you will see below. As you will see there is a special game played during the Dol (Korean First Birthday Party) during which the child is placed on the a blanket on the ground and items including a spool of yarn, wallet, stethoscope, sports ball, a book and a guitar are lined up. Everyone watched in excited anticipation for Baby C to crawl and choose his future. Whatever item(s) are picked up by the baby on their first birthday, according to culture of the Korean First Birthday Party is their destiny when they are grown. Baby C chose both the stethoscope and the ball, possibly sports medicine for this little mister?
